May Your Memory Be a Revolution, Achi!
Hersh Goldberg-Polin was 23 years old when he was killed by Hamas terrorists after being in captivity in Gaza for almost a year. Team members and fans of the German soccer team SV Werder Bremen have shown lots of support for the hostages being held in Gaza, especially Hersh. Back in July, the team put up a banner that read “Let Hersh Free” outside of their stadium. After the announcement of Hersh’s murder, the fans displayed banners inside of the stadium reading “Shalom, salam, peace” and “May your memory be a revolution, achi!” alongside a poster of Hersh’s face before the match began against FC Bayern Munich. The overwhelming support and solidarity from the 40,000 fans in the stadium that day is a powerful reminder to the Jewish people that they are not alone.
